The Oyo State Chapter of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) has issued a statement urging protesters to refrain from violent demonstrations ahead of the upcoming protests on August 1st.
Signed by the Chapter Chairman and released to the press in Ibadan on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, by the Director of Media and Publicity, Egalitarian Segun Akinlabi, the statement emphasizes the importance of peaceful protests.
“As we prepare for the upcoming protests, we urge all participants to eschew violence and embrace peaceful means of expressing their grievances,” the statement reads. “We understand the frustrations and concerns that have led to these protests, but we must ensure that our methods do not compromise our message or put innocent lives at risk.”

The NYC Oyo State Chapter emphasizes that peaceful protests are a fundamental right, but they must be exercised responsibly. “We call on all protesters to conduct themselves in a manner that respects the rights of others, avoids destruction of property, and promotes constructive dialogue.”

The statement concludes by urging the government to listen to the concerns of the youth and address the underlying issues that have led to the protests. “We hope that our voices will be heard and that meaningful action will be taken to address our concerns.”
