BREAKING: Appeal Court Upholds Ruling Halting PDP National Convention, Dismisses Turaki Faction’s Appeal
The Court of Appeal has upheld the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court stopping the planned National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In its ruling, the appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by a faction of the party led by former Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki, describing the suit as lacking merit.
The court further awarded ₦2 million in costs against the appellants, including Turaki and other members of the faction that challenged the Federal High Court’s decision.
While delivering judgment, the court held that the Turaki-led group cannot disguise a clear violation of the PDP constitution and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as an internal party affair.
The appellate court maintained that matters involving the breach of party constitutional provisions, especially where they affect legal procedures and governance within the party, cannot simply be shielded under the guise of internal party disputes.
The ruling effectively affirms the earlier decision of the Federal High Court which had restrained the PDP from proceeding with the planned National Convention pending the resolution of the legal issues surrounding the process.
The development is expected to further shape the internal dynamics within the opposition party as stakeholders await the next line of action from the leadership of the PDP.
