African Network for Anticorruption (ANA) present Press Conference on Fight Against Corruption in Nigeria.
Held at NUT Complex, Kaduna State on Monday 8th July,2024.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press,
As CONCERNED and PATRIOTIC citizens of Nigeria, WE want to use this medium to commend the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, on his mission to transformING the Commission since he assumed office. We acknowledge his laudable achievements so far.
We also FROWN against the failed plan of protest by some individuals within and outside Civil Society Organizations which we consider as an attempt to undermine the efforts of the EFCC. It is unfortunate that over 250 people were allegedly sponsored by a former Governor and two former Ministers to carryout a massive protest against the EFCC. This is a threat to our democracy, and we will not stand by it.
Furthermore, we are concerned about the allegations against the Commandant GENERAL of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for embezzling over 6 billion Naira. Many Nigerians have called for his immediate suspension to enable a thorough investigation into the allegation. However, we are disappointed that no action has been taken yet by the Minister of Interior or the Presidency on this matter.
As good citizens, we demand the immediate suspension of the Commandant and a thorough investigation into the allegation. We give the Federal Government an ultimatum of TWO WEEKS to take APPROPRIATE actions. Failure to do these will be force us to call for a massive protest to show our dismay.
We want to make it clear that Nigeria is bigger than any individual, and we will not allow corruption to thrive. We urge all Nigerians to join us in this fight against corruption and demand accountability from our leaders.
Thank you.
