Amotekun Apprehends Alleged Child Trafficker (DETAILS)
Osun State’s Amotekun Corps operatives have apprehended Isaac Okonu, a suspected inter-state child trafficker, who allegedly transported four under-aged boys and one Dominick Udoh, aged 23, from Akwa Ibom State to Osun to engage them as laborers.
According to a statement issued by Yusuff Idowu, the spokesperson for the Amotekun in Osun State, the interception occurred in the Ifetedo Area of the state. The 23-year-old suspect, also from Akwa Ibom State, reportedly enticed the victims with promises of jobs in Lagos without consulting their parents.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect intended to utilize the victims as laborers on farms in Ajebandele village, Osun. The arrest took place on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at approximately 6:45 pm, after the vehicle transporting them was reported to the Amotekun Ifetedo Command in Ife South Local Government.
The suspect confessed to trafficking the boys without their parents’ or relatives’ consent, claiming to have encountered them begging for money at a motor park in Akwa Ibom State. He persuaded them to accompany him to Lagos for job opportunities, ultimately transporting them to Osun State en route to Ajebandele.
Following the arrest, both the suspect and the victims were transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Headquarters in Osogbo for further investigation and prosecution.
