The Alaafin stool, a revered throne in Yorubaland, is currently embroiled in controversy. The Exevutive Governor of Oyo Stat, Engr. Seyi Makinde on his recent media chat expressed concerns over the selection process, citing corruption and the need for stakeholders to withdraw their cases from court.
Makinde emphasized that the kingmakers, known as the Oyomesi, should be allowed to perform their duties without interference.

Egalitarian Voice recall that the Alaafin stool has been vacant since the demise of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in 2022. The Oyomesi, responsible for selecting the new monarch, have been accused of bribery and irregularities in the selection process. A socio-cultural group, Oyo Omo-Alaafin in Diaspora, alleged that the Oyomesi collected millions from interested aspirants and refused to consult the Oracle as promised.
