The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for unity and reconciliation within the party following the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal concerning its national leadership.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its Expanded Emergency Meeting held on Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the BoT, chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara, Ph.D., said it had carefully reviewed issues surrounding the leadership of the party, particularly the Court of Appeal judgment delivered on March 9, 2026.
The Board expressed disagreement with the judgment which invalidated the PDP National Convention held between November 15 and 16, 2025 that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee. It noted that the party is awaiting legal advice from its lawyers on the next course of action.

The BoT also expressed concern over internal leadership disputes and litigations within the party, describing them as avoidable and detrimental to the unity and smooth functioning of the PDP as Nigeria’s major opposition party.

Despite the development, the Board welcomed the opportunity provided by the Court of Appeal for reconciliation and pledged to explore all available avenues to resolve the crisis.
Recognizing the aspirations of party members preparing for the 2027 general elections, the BoT emphasized its responsibility as the conscience and third-highest leadership organ of the PDP to restore stability and unity within the party.
To achieve this, the Board announced the constitution of a special committee tasked with engaging legal teams and relevant stakeholders in order to facilitate reconciliation and end all disputes.
The BoT further acknowledged the continued support of Nigerians for the PDP, citing reports of massive participation in the party’s ongoing nationwide e-registration exercise. According to the Board, the growing number of registrations demonstrates that the PDP remains the preferred political platform for many Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Board called on party leaders and members to set aside personal and group interests and work collectively for the progress of the party and the welfare of Nigerians.
It also commended Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for their commitment and steadfast support for the party.
Meanwhile, in accordance with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the BoT unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu as the Secretary of the Board.
The BoT urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring that the PDP is working to reposition itself to rescue the nation from what it described as the “stranglehold” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
