After nearly two decades of what they described as political marginalization, youth stakeholders from Ona-Ara Local Government Area have called on all political parties to ensure that the 2027 House of Representatives candidate for Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency emerges from Ona-Ara.

Speaking with Egalitarian Voice during a youth stakeholders’ parley held at Elekuro High School, Tioya, Ibadan, the group stressed that the demand is not about party affiliation but about equity, justice, and balanced representation within the federal constituency.
“Going to 20 years, Egbeda Local Government has produced the representative, while Ona-Ara has only served for 8 years. The record is there to check from 1999 till date. This is unfair and must be corrected in 2027,” one of the youth leaders stated.
They argued that equitable rotation of power between the two local governments is the only way to strengthen unity and sustain mutual trust.
“Power should not be monopolized. Fair representation gives every community a sense of belonging and promotes peace in the constituency,” another speaker added.

The stakeholders noted that Egbeda Local Government has occupied the seat close to 20 years now, with the current representative already serving a second term. They maintained that it is only fair that the next occupant of the position comes from Ona-Ara.
The group therefore urged all major political parties including the APC, ADC, PDP, and others to zone the 2027 House of Representatives ticket to Ona-Ara Local Government and present a credible Ona-Ara son or daughter as their candidate.
They concluded with a passionate reminder that true democracy thrives only when justice and fairness are upheld.
