A TIMELY INTERVENTION: Jubilation in Apatere as Big Daddy Sugar Renovates Long-Abandoned Community Borehole

Residents of Apatere Town, Ward 2 in the Igbo-Elerin area of Lagelu Local Government, have expressed deep appreciation following the rehabilitation of a long-abandoned community borehole by Mogaji Hon. Olajide Olatoye, popularly known as Big Daddy Sugar.

The borehole, which serves multiple communities within Apatere, had been non-functional for several years, forcing residents to depend on unsafe water sources. Repeated appeals to relevant authorities reportedly yielded no results, worsening the community’s hardship.

Relief, however, came when the issue was brought to the attention of Hon. Olatoye. Demonstrating prompt responsiveness, he visited the site with a team of engineers for an on-the-spot assessment. Within days, the borehole was successfully repaired and restored to full operation.

The intervention sparked widespread jubilation, as residents gathered to celebrate and express gratitude for the long-awaited solution.

Speaking during the commissioning, a resident, Mrs. Raji, described the development as a major breakthrough, noting that the request had lingered for over three years. Another resident, who preferred anonymity, said the project has effectively ended prolonged water challenges in the area.

Also speaking, Alhaji Waheed Alao, a prominent PDP stakeholder and community leader in Ward 2, commended the initiative, describing it as a reflection of genuine grassroots leadership and commitment to community development. He called on residents to support Hon. Olatoye’s aspiration to represent Lagelu State Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2027.

The Baale of Apatere, in his remarks, highlighted the historical significance of the project, noting that the borehole was originally constructed by the late Hon. Temitope Olatoye (Sugar). He expressed satisfaction that the facility has now been restored by his elder brother, Hon. Olajide Olatoye, even without holding public office.

In a show of appreciation, the people of Apatere pledged their support for Hon. Olatoye’s 2027 ambition and offered prayers for his continued service to the community.

Responding, Hon. Olatoye thanked the residents for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more impactful projects if given the mandate.

The rehabilitation of the Apatere borehole stands as a significant intervention, restoring access to clean water and renewing hope among the people.
