The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that new presidential and national assembly elections will be held today, Monday in seven Local Government Areas of Abia State.
Clement Oha, the INEC Administration Secretary in Abia, stated this to journalists in Umuahia on Sunday.
He stated that the elections would take place at various polling units in Aba North, Aba South, Arochukwu, Obingwa, Osisioma, Ohafia, and Umuahia North Local Government Areas by 8 a.m. on Monday.
He stated that the new polls were held as a result of various degrees of discrepancies in the procedures, which were violent to some extent.
He went on to say that the reported clashes in the affected polling units during Saturday’s election necessitated the new polls.
The commission in their wisdom felt that the credibility of the election should not be compromised, and that there should be no winner by default.
So, elections must take place in the affected polling units tomorrow (Monday). Oha said the affected polling units had already been communicated.
