“You’re a True Statesman Who Simply Wants Oyo State to Develop” — BASA Hails Engr. Dotun Sanusi (ILAJI) at 58

••• Says Oyo’s Development Must Transcend Politics, Urges Government to Embrace Sanusi’s Vision, Resources and Commitment to Progress

As Chief Engr. Dr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi (JDS), the Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, marks his 58th birthday anniversary on October 17, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA), has described him as a true statesman whose overriding desire is to see Oyo State develop and prosper.

BASA commended Sanusi for standing firm with the people of Oyo State and Nigeria at large, noting that his commitment to the advancement of society and willingness to invest his personal resources in development reflect a genuine passion for the collective good.

“Engr. Sanusi is a big brother, and many of us are looking up to him,” BASA said, acknowledging his influence and the example he continues to set through his commitment to the progress of the state.

For BASA, Sanusi’s 58th birthday is more than a celebration of age, titles and accomplishments. It is an opportunity to recognise a man whose contributions underscore the importance of personal sacrifice, enterprise and collective responsibility in building a better Oyo State.

Beyond Politics, a Genuine Commitment to Development

Many people venture into politics because they seek a platform to defend the rights of their people, influence policies, attract development and ensure that their communities receive the attention they deserve. Yet, BASA’s message highlights an important point: the desire to improve people’s lives should not be confined to the political arena.

Sanusi, she noted, represents the importance of individuals who are prepared to commit their hard-earned resources, time, influence and energy to the development of their communities and the state at large.

The development of Oyo State cannot depend exclusively on government expenditure or public officeholders. It also requires the contributions of entrepreneurs, philanthropists, investors, traditional institutions and other well-meaning citizens who possess the capacity and willingness to make a difference.

When individuals invest their personal resources in initiatives that benefit society, their efforts can complement public programmes, create opportunities and contribute to the overall well-being of the people.

Can Government Solve Every Problem Alone?

This is the question that should shape the conversation around development in Oyo State.

No government, regardless of its intentions, policies or available resources, can single-handedly address every challenge confronting its people. Infrastructure, unemployment, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and social welfare all require sustained attention and considerable resources.

It is against this backdrop that development-minded individuals such as Sanusi should be recognised as potential allies in progress.

Rather than viewing development solely through the lens of political affiliation, government should encourage productive relationships with individuals who demonstrate a genuine commitment to the advancement of the state. Such partnerships, built on transparency, accountability and shared objectives, can complement government efforts and expand opportunities for the people.

The point is simple: when a private individual is willing to invest his hard-earned money and personal influence in making Oyo State better, his commitment should be encouraged in the collective interest of the state.

Government cannot do everything alone, and acknowledging this reality is not a sign of weakness. It is an understanding that sustainable development requires collaboration, shared responsibility and the willingness to work with everyone who can contribute meaningfully to the common good.

A Statesman Beyond Titles and Accolades

Beyond his traditional titles, business interests and public recognition, Sanusi’s birthday offers an opportunity to reflect on the broader meaning of leadership and service.

The true measure of a person’s impact is not determined solely by the honours received or the positions occupied, but also by the contributions made towards improving society and the opportunities created for others.

For BASA, Sanusi remains a big brother and a source of inspiration to many, particularly those who believe that public service and personal commitment must ultimately translate into progress for the people.

As Oyo State looks towards a future of greater prosperity, the need for constructive partnerships between government and development-minded individuals cannot be overstated. Encouraging people who are willing to contribute their resources, expertise and influence can strengthen collective efforts to build a more prosperous state.

At 58, the celebration of Chief Dotun Sanusi is therefore not merely about another year added to his life. It is also a moment to appreciate the possibilities that emerge when personal ambition is matched with a commitment to the progress of society.

BASA celebrates his journey, commends his commitment to the people and wishes him continued good health, greater accomplishments and many more years of meaningful contributions to humanity, Ibadanland, Oyo State and Nigeria.
