Interview: “I Am the Best to Represent the People of Oyo South in 2027 Under PDP”

••• BASA Raises Concern Over Ibarapa Zone, Promises Human-Capacity Development Across Oyo South

IBADAN — Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu, popularly known as BASA, has declared her intention to contest the Oyo South Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

BASA made the declaration during a live interview in Ibadan on Friday, where she spoke about her political ambition, challenges confronting communities across Oyo South, and her proposed plans for youth development, women empowerment, agriculture and human-capacity development.

Speaking about her previous record of service during the live programme, the former Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora to Oyo State Governor said she had used her position to connect people with opportunities and support those in need. She said she would bring the same commitment to the National Assembly if elected in 2027.

“I have used my previous position to lift many people up and connect them to opportunities. That same passion is what I will take to Abuja,” BASA said.

BASA Raises Concern Over Ibarapa Zone

During the interview, BASA expressed concern over what she described as the prolonged neglect of the Ibarapa zone, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, employment and agricultural support.

According to her, the people of Ibarapa have not adequately experienced the benefits of democratic governance, noting that several communities continue to face challenges with roads, employment opportunities and agricultural development.

“Ibarapa people have not felt the dividends of democracy. Since 1999, our inner roads remain damaged, our youths have no job opportunities, and our farmers lack agricultural support,” she said.

She also spoke about the need to identify and develop the talents of young people in Ibadan, while advocating greater economic empowerment for women to enable them to expand their businesses and become financially independent.

“Many of our students and youths have hidden talents that need to be discovered. Our women also need real empowerment to grow their businesses and become independent,” BASA said.

Promises Human-Capacity Development Across Oyo South

BASA said human-capacity development would be a major priority of her proposed representation, promising to focus on skills acquisition, employment opportunities and grassroots empowerment across the nine local government areas of Oyo South.

She said her objective would be to ensure that young people, women, farmers and other residents benefit from programmes designed to improve their economic opportunities and standard of living.

“All hands will be on deck for human capacity building across the 9 LGAs of Oyo South. We need skills, jobs, and empowerment that touch the grassroots,” she said.

BASA also reaffirmed her commitment to the PDP, saying she wants to use the platform to provide stronger representation for communities she believes have not received adequate attention.

She described herself as a candidate with the experience, passion and commitment required to represent the senatorial district effectively, declaring that she believes she is the best person to represent the people of Oyo South in the Senate in 2027.

Concluding the live interview, BASA appealed to the people of Oyo South to support her aspiration and give her the mandate to represent them at the National Assembly.

“I have served. I am serving. With your mandate in 2027, I will serve you better,” she said.
