Rivers 2027: Gov. Fubara Reveals Anointed Candidate, Begs Supporters To Vote For Him

Rivers 2027: Gov. Fubara Reveals Anointed Candidate, Begs Supporters To Vote For Him

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has openly declared support for Kingsley Chinda as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election, while also throwing his weight behind the political coalition associated with former Rivers governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Fubara made the declaration on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Rivers Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt, where he told supporters that the political crisis that once divided the state had been resolved and that a new era of unity had begun.

Speaking before party members, government officials and supporters, the governor said peace had returned to Rivers State following agreements reached among key political actors. He urged residents and political loyalists to support the coalition and its candidates in future elections.

According to Fubara, President Bola Tinubu remains the political leader he supports, adding that the coalition represents the platform through which Rivers State can continue to enjoy stability and development.

The governor specifically endorsed Kingsley Chinda, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as the candidate he wants Rivers people to support. He appealed to his followers across the state to align with the coalition and work towards its success at all levels.

Fubara also dismissed suggestions that he still had unresolved political interests outside the coalition. He stressed that he had fully reunited with what he described as his political family and urged those still expecting political negotiations or benefits before joining the movement to reconsider their position.

His endorsement marks another significant step in the growing reconciliation between him and Wike after months of intense political rivalry that dominated Rivers politics.

Chinda emerged as the APC governorship candidate after winning the party’s primary election held in May. He was the sole contestant in the exercise and secured overwhelming support from delegates.

Interestingly, Fubara had initially participated in the APC governorship screening process alongside Chinda but later withdrew from the race. At the time, the governor explained that his decision was motivated by the need to promote peace, unity and political stability in Rivers State.

The announcement is expected to generate fresh discussions among political observers and stakeholders as Rivers politics continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 polls.
