Flash: Why I Rejected Tinubu Appointment Offer- Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has disclosed that he rejected an offer of a government appointment from President Bola Tinubu, saying he would rather concentrate on his personal life after serving two terms as governor.

Fayose made the revelation last year during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said that although he has maintained a long-standing personal relationship with President Tinubu, he had no intention of accepting a position under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.

According to him, the President had personally asked what position he would like to take in government, but he politely declined.

“Have you seen me taking appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir.’

“At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do. I’ve served well. Two-time governor, I’ve done well. Tomorrow will hold itself.”

Fayose stressed that his cordial relationship with Tinubu should not be mistaken for political affiliation, insisting he remains a member of the PDP.

“I’ve not been with APC, but I’ve been Asiwaju’s friend and brother for a long time. That is the truth,” he said.

However, following reports that President Tinubu appointed him as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency on Monday, Fayose has remained silent, with no official statement confirming or rejecting the appointment as of the time of filing this report.

Political observers are awaiting his response, especially given his earlier position on declining government appointments after serving two terms as governor.
