The Oyo State Executive Council (ExCo) has approved a series of strategic interventions and investments aimed at accelerating economic growth, improving infrastructure, strengthening healthcare delivery, and repositioning the state across key sectors.
The resolutions were reached during the Council’s meeting held on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, where approvals covering agriculture, industrial development, road construction, aviation, healthcare and sports were announced.
Among the major approvals is a ₦3 billion interest-free intervention loan for an indigenous cassava processing factory located in Ado-Awaye.
The cassava factory, which produces cassava flour and other derivatives, is expected to benefit more than 25,000 farmers, create employment opportunities and further consolidate Oyo State’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading cassava-producing states.
The Council also approved an additional ₦2.46 billion government equity investment for the commissioning and commencement of commercial operations of Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited, Iseyin.
This follows an earlier government investment of ₦850 million towards the revitalisation and completion of the sugar processing facility.
In the area of infrastructure, ExCo approved the construction of the 4-kilometre Idi-Igba/Akinmorin Road in Ilora at a cost of ₦2.9 billion, citing the expected socio-economic benefits and improved connectivity for residents and businesses in the area.
The Council further approved an additional ₦26.7 billion for the ongoing upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, covering additional works, including the construction of a 140-metre strip, runway safety area, blast pad, extra pipe covers and other essential airport facilities.
On healthcare, the state government approved the implementation of a major Healthcare Initiative Project to be financed through a €55 million French loan backed by the Federal Government.
The project will support the construction and equipping of modern healthcare facilities, including a Cardiac Centre, Emergency and Maternity Centres, Operating Theatres and Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
It will also provide 39 ambulances, 10 dental centres, 200 Primary Healthcare Centres, and upgraded emergency and maternity facilities across locations including Igboora, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Moniya, Kishi, Iseyin, Okeho and Eruwa.
In sports development, the Council approved an initial ₦200 million take-off grant for Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) to support the club’s ambition of achieving continental success after 27 years of waiting.
The latest approvals reflect the administration’s continued focus on economic expansion, job creation, infrastructure renewal and improved quality of life for residents of Oyo State.
