“No Democracy Without Security” — Adejoke (AAA) Marks June 12 with Call for Hope, Prayers for Oriire Kidnap Victims

As Nigerians celebrate the 2026 Democracy Day, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for the Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Adejoke Adekanmbi-Akinseye (AAA), has stressed that democracy can only be meaningful when it guarantees the security, welfare, and prosperity of the people.

In a statement to commemorate June 12, Hon. Adejoke described the day as a historic reminder of the sacrifices made by Nigerians in the struggle for democratic governance, justice, and the protection of the people’s mandate.

She noted that while the nation has made significant democratic progress over the years, growing security concerns continue to pose serious challenges to national development and citizens’ well-being.

The PDP House of Representatives candidate expressed concern over the recent reported abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the incident as unfortunate and a painful reminder of the need for sustained efforts to safeguard lives and property.

According to her, Democracy Day should not only be a celebration of democratic achievements but also an opportunity to reflect on the collective responsibility of government and citizens in building a safer and more prosperous society.

“June 12 symbolizes the triumph of democracy and the resilience of the Nigerian people. However, as we celebrate, our hearts remain with the students, teachers, and families affected by insecurity, particularly those impacted by the reported kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area.

“I call on Nigerians to remember the victims and their families in prayers and to remain hopeful for their safe return. No family should have to endure the pain and uncertainty that insecurity brings,” she stated.

Hon. Adejoke further emphasized that democracy must deliver tangible benefits to citizens, including quality education, economic opportunities, social justice, and protection from threats to life and property.

She urged governments at all levels to strengthen security measures, improve intelligence gathering, and continue investing in policies that enhance public safety and national development.

“Democracy is not only about elections; it is about creating a society where citizens can live, learn, work, and pursue their aspirations without fear. The true measure of democratic governance lies in its ability to improve lives and guarantee security for all,” she said.

The PDP candidate also encouraged Nigerians to remain united and committed to the ideals of peace, accountability, and good governance, noting that collective efforts are necessary to overcome the country’s challenges.

“As we commemorate Democracy Day, let us renew our faith in Nigeria and recommit ourselves to building a nation where hope thrives, justice prevails, and every citizen has the opportunity to succeed. Together, we can create a safer and more prosperous future for generations to come,” she added.

Hon. Adejoke concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Democracy Day celebration and praying for lasting peace, security, and development across Oyo State and the country.
