Suspected Armed Bandits Attack Kwara Prayer Ground, Kill Three Worshippers and Abduct Fifteen

A quiet night vigil in a remote part of Kwara State turned into a scene of terror when suspected armed bandits stormed a prayer ground, killing at least three worshippers and dragging fifteen others into the bush. The attack happened on Friday night at Ori-Oke Ajaiye, a secluded prayer camp on the outskirts of Ikiran Village in Ekiti Local Government Area, an agrarian community known for its peace.
According to residents, the gunmen struck around 8:30 p.m., firing sporadically as they invaded the gathering. The worshippers, who had assembled for a night prayer session, scattered in different directions amid the gunfire, but the assailants managed to whisk several people away. The identities of the three deceased victims have not yet been officially released, and local sources say fear has since gripped surrounding villages. Many residents are now calling for stronger security presence and surveillance around isolated worship centres and farming settlements.

Security operatives were deployed to the area shortly after the attack, and search efforts have extended into nearby forests. Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Kwara State Police Command said the attack was reported by one Pastor Adebayo Abiodun. The police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has deployed tactical and intelligence teams, including the Police Drone Unit and PMF personnel, for a coordinated rescue mission. The police described the assault as barbaric, callous, and unacceptable, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
