Kidnapping Incident: Oyo Tutorial Schools Commiserate with Oyo NUT, Declare Lecture-Free Day, Join Fasting and Prayers
The Governor of Oyo State Tutorial Schools, Hon. Oladipupo Olalekan Shakirudeen, popularly known as INTELLECTUALS, has extended heartfelt condolences to teachers, students, and commuters affected by the tragic kidnapping incident in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He sympathized with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the Oyo State Government, and families of victims over the unfortunate incident involving the abduction of a school principal, teachers, and students within the local government area.
While addressing members of his cabinet, Hon. Oladipupo made the following three-point declaration:
1. Participation in Fasting and Prayers
All tutorial schools across Oyo State are directed to join the Oyo State NUT in the ongoing three-day fasting and prayer programme as contained in the NUT memo. Students in tutorial centres are also encouraged to participate in the prayers for peace, protection, and the safe return of victims.
2. Solidarity and Public Sensitisation Movement
The association will engage the Oyo State NUT towards organizing a one-day solidarity movement aimed at sensitising the public on the need to pray for education stakeholders and to further call on both the Federal and State Governments to strengthen security around schools, especially in rural communities.
3. Lecture-Free Day Declaration
Tutorial centres across Oyo State are to observe a lecture-free day on Monday, May 18, 2026, in solidarity with victims and families affected by the sorrowful incident.
Hon. Oladipupo noted that tutorial owners remain critical stakeholders in the education sector and therefore share in the pains of the Oyo State Government, NUT, ANCOPSS, and affected families during this difficult period.
He prayed that Almighty God grants the bereaved families the strength and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss and restore peace and safety across schools in the state.
