· GOT SPIN (Oyo State DJ Competition) with prizes including ₦1,000,000
· BASA Oyo South Future Proof Summit

In a significant political declaration held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Ibadan, Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi, popularly known as BASA, formally announced her candidacy for the Oyo South Senatorial Seat under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections, Egalitarian Voice reports. The event held at the BASA Campaign Organization Office, Baba Olunloyo Complex, Molete, Ibadan.

In a move underscoring her commitment to grassroots development, the declaration was accompanied by the launch of two flagship empowerment initiatives: the GOT SPIN (Oyo State DJ Competition) and the BASA Oyo South Future Proof Summit.
A Legacy of Service and Humanitarian Impact
A distinguished public servant, entrepreneur, and educationist, BASA brings a formidable track record in governance and humanitarian service to the race. As the daughter of the late Hon. Prince Alli Adebayo Balogun Sarumi (Alli Bay), she made history in 2019 as the first woman in Oyo State to contest for the Governorship seat.
Beyond her political ambitions, BASA has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to lifting others through her philanthropic platforms, the BASA Foundation and Childhood Bridge International Initiative. Her empowerment footprint includes facilitating free CAC business registrations for small-scale entrepreneurs, awarding educational grants to students and orphans across Nigeria, establishing community libraries to promote literacy, and providing targeted support for artisans and women-led enterprises.

Her public service credentials include tenure as Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde (2020–2022), where she notably led the successful repatriation of over 400 trafficked Nigerians during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to this, she served as Special Assistant on Social Development to the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from 2011 to 2012.
Currently serving as the Academy Resident Director of Tots & TAPS Academy in Abuja, BASA’s declaration centers on a vision for a more inclusive and prosperous Oyo South. “This journey is about translating purpose into tangible action for our youths, women, and communities,” BASA stated during the declaration ceremony. “My record with the BASA Foundation—from providing educational support to orphans to equipping our local businesses with proper registration—speaks to a lifetime of service that predates this campaign. That work does not stop today; it accelerates. Leadership must be proactive, and that is why we are not just declaring intent; we are delivering immediate opportunities.”
Empowerment Programs Launched
In tandem with her senatorial bid, BASA unveiled two major programs designed to foster economic creativity and future-readiness among the district’s youth:
1. GOT SPIN (Oyo State DJ Competition): A platform open to DJs across Oyo State, offering participants the chance to compete for top prizes including ₦1,000,000 and professional turntables. The initiative aims to harness and reward talent within the creative industry.
2. BASA Oyo South Future Proof Summit: A 3-day intensive youth empowerment summit open to all residents of Oyo South with a valid voter’s card. The summit is focused on equipping young people with essential skills, direction, and opportunities for a sustainable future.
Ongoing Commitment to Grassroots Development and Skills Acquisition
The declaration also outlined a robust continuum of BASA’s philanthropic work. Drawing from her extensive background in social policy and direct community engagement, she announced that a new wave of practical interventions will commence in June 2026. A comprehensive series of vocational training programs will be rolled out across the senatorial district, providing hands-on skills acquisition in:
· Tailoring
· Barbing
· Cakes and Pastry Production
· Makeup Artistry
· Catering
These sessions are strategically designed to equip women and youths with sustainable, income-generating skills that foster financial independence and local economic growth.

Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi Aliyu holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Policy from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. She remains a steadfast advocate for youth inclusion and women’s political participation in Oyo State.
