The family of Ihotu John Rebecca has made a desperate appeal for help following her abduction, revealing that her captors are demanding a ₦20 million ransom for her release.
Rebecca, a player with Pacesetter Queens FC in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, was reportedly kidnapped along the Benin Expressway while returning home.
Her abduction has sparked widespread concern within the women’s football community and among Nigerians, as calls grow for urgent intervention.

According to the family, the kidnappers have established contact and insisted on a ₦20,000,000 payment. They described the situation as deeply distressing, warning that her safety cannot be guaranteed without swift action.
“This is a young athlete who has devoted herself to representing Nigerian women’s football at the highest domestic level. She is currently in grave danger, and time is of the essence,” the family said in a statement.
They appealed passionately to stakeholders across the sports sector and beyond, urging immediate assistance.

“We are calling on football authorities, club administrators, sponsors, government officials, security agencies, and well-meaning Nigerians to come to her aid. Every support at this critical time matters,” the statement added.
Rebecca is regarded as one of the rising talents in the NWFL Premiership. Her kidnapping has once again brought attention to persistent security challenges along major highways, particularly the Benin Expressway.
As of press time, security agencies are yet to release an official statement concerning efforts to secure her freedom. Meanwhile, her family insists that every passing moment is crucial as they continue to seek urgent support for her safe return.
