Shock or Relief? Court Finally Decides Fate of PDP Convention

The Waiting Is Over: Court Delivers Verdict on PDP’s 2025 National Convention

[EGALITARIAN VOICE] — The uncertainty surrounding the 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally been laid to rest following a landmark ruling by an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan.

The convention, which was held in the Oyo State capital on November 15 and 16, 2025, had been the subject of legal disputes challenging its validity and the emergence of a new national leadership for the party.

Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Ladiran Akintola of Court 5 dismissed an application for stay of proceedings filed by Nwachukwu and other parties contesting the exercise. The ruling came shortly after the court addressed an application for joinder, thereby clearing procedural obstacles and paving the way for a substantive decision.

In his verdict, Justice Akintola granted all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, through his counsel, Musbau Adetunmbi. The court’s decision firmly upheld the legality of the convention and its outcomes.

With this judgment, the emergence of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr. Taminu Turaki has now received judicial validation. The ruling not only strengthens the party’s leadership structure but also signals a new phase of stability for the PDP following the Ibadan convention.

Political observers say the judgment could have far-reaching implications for the party’s internal cohesion and preparations ahead of future electoral contests.

More reactions are expected as stakeholders respond to the court’s pronouncement.
