As Oyo State celebrates its 50th anniversary, 2027 governorship aspirant and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA), has provided a candid assessment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, particularly regarding women inclusion, education, healthcare, and environmental management.

BASA, a former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde, rated the state government zero out of ten in promoting women’s participation in politics. She noted that, despite government rhetoric on inclusion, women continue to be underrepresented in decision-making positions across the state’s political structures.
She further assessed education and healthcare, giving the administration four out of ten in both sectors, and emphasised that while some initiatives exist, their impact has been limited, particularly at the grassroots level.

During an interview with a leading radio station in Ibadan on Monday, February 2nd, 2026, BASA also expressed concern over the state of environmental sanitation in Ibadan and Oyo State at large, describing the city as “excessively dirty” and unbefitting a state considered a pace-setter in the South-West.

“The Ministry of Environment must rise to its responsibility. The level of dirtiness across Ibadan and other zones is unacceptable and requires urgent, strategic action,” she said.

On local government autonomy, the ADC leader pledged that if elected governor, she would authorize and implement an executive order granting full autonomy to local governments across Oyo State.

“With true local government autonomy, the dividends of democracy will reach the grassroots. Development will no longer be concentrated at the centre, and every community in Oyo State will feel the impact of governance,” BASA stated.
