Federal lawmaker, Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
Egalitarian Voice understands that the declaration was made on Sunday, marking the beginning of Buhari’s transition from the National Assembly to the state’s highest political contest.
Buhari, who currently represents Oyo North Senatorial District and serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, confirmed that he would not be seeking a fourth term in the Senate.

The three-term senator will be contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Buhari said his ambition is driven by the need for competence and proven performance to take priority over zoning sentiments.

He stated:
“I have said that I’m no longer interested in the Senate seat again because I also want to take a shot at the governorship. I am not desperate; I leave it to God, and I am looking unto God to do it for me.
“I want the people of Oyo State to look beyond where a candidate comes from and focus on performance, competence, experience, and the ability to take our state to greater heights.”
