A member of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, who was recently released from captivity, has described the frightening experience he and others went through while being held by terrorists deep inside a remote forest.
Sharing his ordeal, the survivor said the abductors made it clear from the beginning that escape was impossible due to their strong control over the area.
“It was unimaginable. When we arrived at the place, we immediately realised the entire area was under their control,” he said. “They even told us themselves that they were bandits and made it clear that nobody could escape. From what we saw, there was no way anyone could slip away. They know every route in those bushes across Kwara and neighbouring states.”
He explained that the forest was heavily monitored, with the terrorists boasting about their mastery of the terrain and their ability to detect any movement around the surrounding bushes. The captives were constantly watched, leaving them in fear and uncertainty throughout their stay.
A total of 38 worshippers were abducted from the Eruku CAC on Tuesday, November 18, and were freed on Sunday, November 23, 2025, amid the rising cases of kidnapping across the country.
