…. Clarifies meeting with APC leader

In what appears to be a fresh twist in Oyo State’s evolving political landscape, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, one of the state’s most influential political figures, has declared that he should no longer be addressed as a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The outspoken politician made this known while reacting to a series of public comments that followed viral photographs showing him with some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his recent visit to the United Kingdom.
Olopoeyan, who reportedly made a stopover in the UK after a political tour of the United States, was seen in the company of top APC figures, including the former First Lady of Oyo State, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, and former gubernatorial candidate Senator Teslim Folarin.
However, he swiftly debunked speculations that his meeting signified a move to the ruling APC, saying his political path remains undecided at the moment.
“Meeting with APC chieftains doesn’t mean I am joining the APC,” Olopoeyan clarified.
“As of now, I am not in any political party, but soon, my decision will be made known.”
The Oyo-born political heavyweight also emphasized that it is now inaccurate to refer to him as a PDP stalwart.
“Addressing me as a PDP chieftain doesn’t count anymore,” he declared.
Makinde’s Gift Still in Public Memory
It will be recalled that on May 21, 2025, Egalitarian Voice reported that Governor Seyi Makinde gifted a new utility vehicle to Olopoeyan — a gesture that drew mixed reactions from both party loyalists and observers within the state’s political circle.
At the time, the gift was seen by some as a reconciliation move between the governor and the former PDP mobiliser, who had fallen out with the party leadership before the 2023 elections.

Now, months later, Olopoeyan’s latest remark appears to signal a complete separation from the PDP, suggesting that his next political direction may surprise many ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oyo 2027: The Political Chessboard Resets
With the political atmosphere in Oyo State gradually heating up, Olopoeyan’s statement adds a new layer of intrigue to the unfolding race to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde.
Analysts believe his eventual alignment could significantly influence grassroots mobilization, particularly across Ibadanland and other strategic blocs where his loyalists remain active.
For now, the veteran politician insists he is taking his time to decide his next move — but one thing is clear: the era of addressing Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan as a “PDP Chieftain” is officially over.

Egalitarian Voice will continue to monitor the unfolding political realignments as Oyo gears up for the 2027 transition race.
