Video: The Real Story Behind ‘Emilokan’

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has explained the true context behind the now-famous phrase “Emilokan” popularised during the 2023 presidential campaign.

Speaking on Politics Today with Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television, Bwala said the phrase was never meant as arrogance or entitlement, but rather as a political expression rooted in party negotiations.

According to him, “Emilokan simply meant it was his turn to bring to bear the dreams he has always had as a leader in Nigeria. Within the framework of the party, when we negotiated it, he believed there would come a time when it would be his turn to also run. So, there is nothing wrong with the use of the word ‘Emilokan’.”

Bwala added that President Tinubu has since demonstrated the weight of that statement through his governance style, stressing that, “Now that he is governing, he has been able to prove that it is indeed his turn to right the wrongs and put the economic structure in its proper perspective.”
