The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims to have identified several of its governors as potential presidential candidates for the 2027 general election.
Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, told reporters in Abuja on Wednesday that the PDP has a roster of “capable and performing governors” who could challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He listed Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, and Diri Douye of Bayelsa as “highly qualified” “highly qualified” to fly the party’s flag.
The announcement comes ahead of the party’s national elective convention, scheduled to be held in Ibadan, Oyo state, from November 15 to 16, 2025.

The PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC), at its 100th meeting, had confirmed the dates and venue for the convention. It reportedly agreed to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the south, a move seen as favouring Makinde.
Ologunagba described the PDP as the “next natural alternative to the APC” and said Nigerians are yearning for a return to the party’s era of governance.

“We are ready for our national convention. The party remains the rallying point for Nigerians. They can see that we are open to discussions. We are coming out stronger,” he said.
He warned that “anti-party activities will no longer be condoned” and urged members to “obey the constitution and abide by it.”

The PDP has been dealing with internal disputes, including disagreements over the position of national secretary and the date of its NEC meeting.
