Veteran journalist and former PDP chieftain, Dele Momodu, has highlighted why he believes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is a model democrat in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to Momodu, Atiku has consistently demonstrated political maturity and ethical conduct since 1993, when he voluntarily stepped down for Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola during the SDP presidential primaries in Jos.
In a recent article shared on his Facebook page, Momodu praised Atiku for his non-violent approach to politics and his refusal to engage in election manipulation or sponsor political thuggery.

“Atiku sees politics as a contest of ideas, not a battlefield of hatred or bitterness,” Momodu wrote.
Despite multiple unsuccessful presidential bids—including his most recent loss to President Bola Tinubu—Atiku has never resorted to destructive tactics, Momodu said. Instead, he has always chosen to move on peacefully or align with alternative political platforms in pursuit of his vision.
“Even after being passed over for Babagana Kingibe as Abiola’s running mate, he remained loyal to the party,” Momodu noted.
“His eventual emergence as Vice President under President Olusegun Obasanjo was almost destined. He never introduced violence into the process. When things didn’t go his way, he simply moved on—he never burned bridges or tore down the house.”
Amid speculation about another possible presidential run in 2027, Momodu’s comments aim to underscore Atiku’s enduring role as a principled figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
