Ooni of Ife Storms Bayelsa! Meets Jonathan, Diri Reason
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, on Sunday underscored the critical role of national unity in ensuring Nigeria’s long-term development and stability.
He made this statement during a three-day visit to Bayelsa State, where he met with former President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Douye Diri, and members of the Bayelsa State Traditional Council.
During the visit, Oba Ogunwusi emphasized that peace and unity among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups are vital for meaningful national progress.
A statement from the Director of Media and Publicity at the Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, revealed that the monarch was accompanied by his wife, Olori Elizabeth Ogunwusi, and other esteemed traditional rulers, including the Alaagba of Aagba, Oba Rufus Ogunwole, and the Onigbaye of Igbaye, Oba Joseph Okunlola-Oni.

“We have no other country but Nigeria. The key to our progress is peace, and peace cannot exist without unity. This is where the support of traditional rulers becomes essential to government efforts,” the Ooni declared.
He added, “Traditional leaders must guide their communities responsibly to ensure peace across the nation, which is necessary for the success of government initiatives like the Renewed Hope Agenda. Cross-cultural dialogue and engagement are crucial in achieving this goal.”
King Bubaraye Dakolo, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers and Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, described the Ooni’s visit as a historic moment, marking Bayelsa as the first among 17 southern states to host him since his appointment in 2024 as the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council.
