Former presidential aspirant and media mogul, Chief Dele Momodu, has stirred political waters with a bold declaration that only former President Goodluck Jonathan has the stature to match President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on the evolving political landscape, Momodu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described Jonathan as the only figure with the national appeal and political legacy to pose a real challenge to the incumbent president. However, he quickly added that Jonathan appears unlikely to return to active politics.
“President Jonathan has reached a level of personal contentment. He never even imagined he would rise to such a political height, and it shows in how gracefully he’s stepped back from the spotlight,” Momodu stated.
While emphasizing Jonathan’s potential as a unifying force, Momodu also highlighted the continued relevance of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as another figure the ruling camp views with apprehension.
Momodu Tells Tinubu to ‘Call Wike to Order’ Before He ‘Throws Nigeria into Chaos’
“Let’s be honest—apart from Jonathan, the only other person Tinubu’s camp is clearly worried about is Atiku. And that’s why they’ve continued to launch political attacks against him in a bid to demarket him before 2027,” he said.
The remarks come amid growing speculation over who might emerge as a viable opposition candidate in the next general election. With the political climate heating up, Momodu’s comments are expected to spark further debate within PDP circles and beyond.
