You Won’t Believe It! 26 States Received ZERO Foreign Investment in One Year—Number 4 And 12 Will Sh*ck You!

A staggering report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that 26 states in Nigeria received no foreign investments between Q2 2023 and Q2 2024. This lack of investment not only reflects poorly on the states but also raises serious questions about their economic policies and overall attractiveness to investors.

The states that were unable to draw any foreign capital during this period include Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.

The absence of foreign investments is a major concern for the economic growth and development of these states. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is crucial for job creation, technology transfer, and infrastructure development. When states fail to attract FDI, it often leads to stagnant economies, high unemployment rates, and a lack of innovation. In contrast, states that successfully attract foreign investments tend to experience significant economic growth, which benefits their citizens and enhances overall living standards.

Analysts attribute this lack of investment to various factors, including poor infrastructure, insecurity, and unfavorable business environments. States like Borno and Yobe, which have been plagued by security challenges, are particularly affected. Similarly, states with inadequate infrastructure and bureaucratic red tape deter potential investors, making it imperative for state governments to reassess their strategies and implement reforms aimed at creating a more investor-friendly climate.
