The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the federal government a 14-day ultimatum to address its pending demands or risk another strike action.
ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodoke, accused the government of lacking commitment to executing agreements, some dating back to 2009.
The union’s demands include:
– Payment of withheld salaries due to the 2022 strike action
– Conclusion of the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement
– Release of unpaid salaries for staff on sabbatical, part-time, and adjunct appointments
– Payment of outstanding deductions
– Funding for the revitalization of public universities
– Payment of Earned Academic Allowances
ASUU warns that failure to meet these demands within the stipulated timeframe will lead to industrial disharmony, crippling academic activities in public universities.
The 14-day ultimatum, effective from September 23, 2024, is an addition to the earlier 21-day notice. ASUU urges the government to address the looming crisis.
