The Destiny Trust, in collaboration with the Henry Chijioke Ofili Foundation, has announced the offer of scholarships to students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines in Nigerian public universities.
Tagged ‘The Destiny Trust-Henry Ofili Scholarship’, the initiative will focus on supporting the education of Nigerians between the ages of 16 and 25 who demonstrate exceptional academic and leadership potential but are financially disadvantaged.
“The Henry Chijioke Ofili Foundation was founded in honour of Henry Chijioke Ofili (1989-2008),” wrote Athina Jeje, The Destiny Trust’s chief operating officer, in a July 25 press release.
“Chijioke lived a life defined by excellence and was a man of extraordinary brilliance, immense generosity, and a constant quest for self-improvement.
“The family-run foundation has established the scholarship endowment which is administered by The Destiny Trust in line with a mutual commitment to empower the next generation of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) talents to attain their best potential and make a sustainable impact on their communities.“
Speaking with FIJ, Abimbola Ojenike, the co-founder of The Destiny Trust, described the collaboration as a lifeline opportunity for indigent students with academic brilliance.
“We are immensely grateful for this collaboration to secure the future of many more Nigerian children and youths within vulnerable groups,” Ojenike told FIJ.
“With the recent significant fee increase in many Nigerian universities, children from disadvantaged backgrounds face an uncertain future.
“This challenge creates an opportunity for us to hold out the lifeline for many who may fall by the way while reaffirming our commitment to raise valuable STEM talents for Africa from amongst the children and youths mostly forgotten.
