Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, has hinted at supporting Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, in the 2027 election.
The former vice president gave his reason for the development while talking on Obi’s visit to his residence during the week.
Currently engaged in merger talks with stakeholders from various opposition parties, the former Vice President expressed readiness to back Obi if selected by the party for the next election during an interview with BBC Hausa Service, as reported by The Sun.

There have been discussions and meetings between Atiku and Obi, leading to speculation about a potential merger of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Atiku confirming the possibility of joining forces to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku emphasized his willingness to support Peter Obi if the new party decides to choose him as its candidate for the South-East region, stating that he would respect the party’s decision in line with his commitment to abide by the party’s choices regarding presidential zoning.
“If party zone presidential ticket to South-East, then I will respect party decision”, Atiku stated.
