Sources familiar with the development disclosed that the high-level meeting may not be unconnected with ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid increasing consultations among key political stakeholders across the country.

Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Makinde, one of the influential governors within the party, have both remained active in national political engagements in recent months.

General Babangida, popularly known as IBB, continues to play a behind-the-scenes role in national politics, often receiving top political figures seeking counsel and strategic direction on governance and national unity.
Efforts to get official reactions from the parties involved proved unsuccessful as aides declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting.
